HSBC in the Community

HSBC in the Community Middle East Foundation was established in 1996 to fund opportunities for youngsters across the region.

The Foundation, a £1 million charitable and community initiative, funds educational, environmental and other projects. The formation of the Foundation underlines the Bank's long association with the region and its continued commitment to the Middle East.

Going forward, HSBC Bank Egypt had an exceptional opportunity to demonstrate commitment to the Egyptian community in a very particular way through supporting the education of community based students at the Egyptian Society for Intercultural Exchange (AFS Egypt). A trust worthy society which promotes a wide range of intercultural learning and living experiences for secondary school students and young adults.

HSBC Bank Egypt supports Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) which mobilizes university students to create economic opportunity for others. SIFE Egypt students are outstanding representatives from colleges and universities from all part of Egypt.

HSBC Bank Egypt also supports INJAZ programme which is designed to enhance youths' skills to enter the job market as employees or entrepreneurs. It is of paramount importance in view of the economic and social structural adjustments/privatization taking place in Egypt.

With the belief that education is the key to prosperity HSBC works with the British Council to promote intellectual and cultural diversity through a Chevening Scholars scheme which enables exceptional students from all over the world to pursue postgraduate courses or university research in the UK.

Many talented young people never get the chance to fulfill their potential, which means they, their families and the wider community all lose out. HSBC tries to make a difference to the lives of at least some of them by providing financial support to give young people access to the education they need whereby HSBC Bank Egypt has combined efforts with Association of Upper Egypt for Development in empowering local communities targeting the poorest of the poor through education and development programs focusing on children, women and youth. With Social Care Institution for Boys which provides comprehensive care for 40 pupils/students who are either orphans or from broken homes. With The Hope Village Society dedicated to providing attention, care, education and training to children in special difficult circumstances emphasizing on “Street Children”. With Caritas Egypt who implements many development projects in different areas in Egypt supported by fund raising campaigns.

In line with the same belief we have taken up the cause of addressing educational standards by building a completely new library and stocking it with books, a computer centre supplied with computers, buying new furniture and paying for the renovation of rooms used by school children, all through combined efforts with Giza for Mother and Child Welfare Association, Ahalina orphanage and SETI Centre El Matareya with direct focus on achieving the best for the Egyptian society by increasing the social, cultural and financial levels for Egyptian families.

HSBC puts considerable efforts into projects that help children to develop their skills.

Our support for local communities continues to grow, whereby HSBC have joined forces with different centres to provide model rehabilitation and learning environment for children with behavioral, physical and sight difficulties supporting The Right to Live Association focusing on providing care and training for children and youth with special needs, financial support for the Egyptian society for Developing Skills of Special Needs Children "ADVANCE" focusing on multidisciplinary therapeutic programme and offering the children with special needs a wide range of remedial, educational, vocational and rehabilitation services to proceed towards independence and better integration within the community. Providing Forsan El Erada with Braille printers and financial support to Junior Special Association and Young Women Christian Association (YWCA)-Hope Centre.

Believing in sharing the responsibility with Government and citizens for minimizing the damaging effects of human activity – pollution of land, water and air and depletion of resources, HSBC bank Egypt involves in Environmental projects in coordination with Care Egypt which projects mainly concerned about environmental projects.

Satisfying a high demand of the Egyptian society, HSBS Bank Egypt fully supports Health Care sector and is going forward in the field. HSBC Bank Egypt contributed either financially or by equipping hospitals with required apparatuses. With El Nour Foundation dedicated to combat blindness, low vision and to support eye care services to deprived communities, particularly women and children in both urban and rural Egypt.
